ARC Newsflash: Ukranian AM transmitters reactivated

Natsionalna Radiokompania Ukrainy has restarted some transmitters that have been silent for some months. Monitoring shows that the following stations are on the air:

657 RUI/UR3, 675 UR1, 936 UR1, 972 UR1, 1377 UR1, 1431 UR3 and 1584 UR1.

ARC Newsflash: Pirate radio ship to anchor off Fiji?

WELLINGTON [NZ] - In the past few days, Usaia Waqatairewa of the Australian based Fiji Democracy & Freedom Movement has floated the idea of broadcasting uncensored news and music programs to Fijian
radio listeners from a 'pirate radio' ship anchored in international waters near Fiji.

Waqatairewa claims his organization has been in contact with News Limited which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, the global media billionaire and which also owns the Fiji Times newspaper which is now for sale to
comply with a recent media ownership decree. (Radio Heritage Foundation http://www.radioheritage.net/).

ARC Newsflash: Radio Hami on the air

Radio Hami at Räyskälä (west of Lahti) in Finland (RSL) is on the air on 1584 and 6170 kHz between 0500-2100 UTC with programming, but the rest of the time with non-stop music. Heard on July 15th at 1500 UTC on 6170 kHz and at 2205 UTC on 1584 kHz. Quite good strength on shortwave, but on mediumwave QRM from Twoje Radio AM, Slupsk in Poland. All Finnish, but a few IDs in English. Radio Hami is very often mentioned in the DJ-programs. The transmissions will end on July 18th. (Bengt Ericson, Växjö, ARC.)
Also heard with good signals in the radio shack at Fredriksfors on SW 6170 in daytime/evening plus with moderate signals and severe interference on 1584 kHz. (Ronny Forslund, ARC)

ARC Newsflash: New Irish station on 927 kHz

IRELAND UNID: I first noted continuous music on 927kHz AM on Saturday 26 June  2010 between 12.00 midday & 6.00pm; the transmission was emanating from a transmitter which is situated between Mullingar (Co. Westmeath) & Longford (Co. Longford) in the Republic of Ireland.

Continuous music was also noted on 927kHz AM this afternoon (Wednesday 30 June 2010) up until 6.00pm (Sean Brady, IRL via Jan Edh, ARC)

ARC Newsflash: Atlantic Radio, Ireland - new station on 1251 kHz

According to their website http://www.atlanticradio.ie/ Atlantic Radio is now testing from Castlebar, Ireland on MW 1251 kHz and SW 6960 kHz. The MW transmitter is said to be in AM stereo. The station also has a Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Atlantic-Radio/265344633593?v=wall where programme information is published. At the moment the station is running on low power while some aerial adjustments are made but a spokesman for the station says that in a few days the main transmitter will be on the air. Power will then be 250 W carrier, 1 kW PEP. (Ronny Forslund, ARC)
